I started the Venn Diagram. I have hopefully pasted it on here for us to look at. We do not have to do the two I picked. I just thought I would start it, and if everyone liked the two cartoons we could be a step ahead. Feel free to change anything around! I look forward to working with both of you. Tina
Tina, These two look great to me! I will get working on them on Wednesday! Janine
Ok girls so apparently one of us needs to take all the suggestions and add them into the diagram then post it. I think??? I am not doing very well with this technology stuff so I could be wrong.
I can add the suggestions on. I already put one in each category of the Venn Diagram. If you do not feel comfortable editing the Venn Diagram, post suggestions on here and I can add them. - Tina
Thanks cause I added some but they wouldn't save, they kept disappearing! Welcome All- Shows the immigrants happy to be entering America, with a very welcoming Uncle Sam Same- Both shoe the immigrants in a stereo-typical way. Example the Japanese are shown in traditional Japanese clothes. Japanese exclusion- Japanese immigrants look sullen and have very sad body language as they are being led out of the country/to an encampment by a police officer.
I will add more later!
Hi Tina and Janine - sorry I'm the latecomer and thanks for getting this project started. What I can do is add to the Venn Diagram by researching information from additional sources and citing them. Does that sound ok? If you're agreeable to this I can have it added by Friday at the latest.
Gloria
Sounds good to me. -Tina
Here are some things that can be added to the diagram: Welcome All - shows wealthier and poorer European immigrants;
- Uncle Sam is portrayed as a liberator
- from ellisisland.org - "The door was wide open for European immigrants in the 1880's" Same - both cartoons depict immigrants on a dock or port
- from ellisisland.org - European immigrants came into Ellis Island in NYC; Asian immigrants came into Angel Island in San Francisco Japanese Exclusion - Japanese are ragged, weary and some are carrying weapons
- from ellisisland.org - "The Gentleman's Agreement of 1907 forbade Japanese male workers from immigrating to the U.S. but allowed japanese immigration of other family members such as spouses, parents, children"
Does anyone want to add anything else before we post final diagram? Did anyone use any other sources? I started posting the sources I knew Gloria used. - Tina
I went to the Ellis Island website and found some interesting information while I was lurking around! That is a very interesting site that I was totally unaware of! I really learn something new everyday! I like your evaluations of the cartoons also.
